39 de cântece au fost incluse în lista extinsă pentru premiile Oscar

Două cântece din "Happy Feet 2", trei din "The Muppets", trei din "Rio" şi două din "Winnie the Pooh" au fost nominalizate, la fel ca şi două piese compuse de Elton John: Hello Hello şi Love Builds a Garden (Gnomeo&Juliet).

Lista finală a nominalizaţilor pentru această categorie va fi anunţată în ianuarie 2012, iar membrii Academiei vor acorda un anumit număr de puncte fiecărui cântec.
